In our data center track Matthias, a well known actor for Data Center Sustainability, has presented a very nice an comprehensive state of the industry:
- There are lot of claims: “DC Sustainability Imperative, Worlds most efficienct computing infrastructure, Cloud is 4.1x times more efficient than on-premise“
- Some numbers only present the tip of the Ice Berg. In one example an SoMe company’s reported emissions that were more than 1000x below what the full reporting with Scope 3 would have been.
- His main point is on the PUE as a metric for sustainability and it’s major flaws like:
- Not incorporating renewable energy benefits
- More consumption can lead to smaller PUE
- He finishes off with a nice industry case!
