TLDR; Liess, Marco - Linux Power Management

One of our favorite software deep dives of ecoCompute, because as you know: We love getting technical on the conference

He goes into code level detail of:

  • CPU Power Management through Frequency adjustments. Explaining P-States, C-States and how the schedulers (powersave, performance, schedutil etc.) are implemented in Linux
  • He then transitions to processing of network traffic, which poses unique challenges bc of the latency requirements. For IPSec you would already need 18 standard CPUs to process a 100 Gbps connection
  • Custom ASICs and their implementation are presented as solutions
